Danish Beer? Let’s Talk Turkey!

Although the Tuborg Brewery was founded in Copenhagen, Denmark, in 1875, the Tuborg beers presently distributed in Quebec are “Brewed by Turk Tuborg A.S. Izmir, Turkey under the supervision of Carlsberg Breweries” (Label): This is not necessarily a bad thing as Turkey is near Mesopotamia, where the first beer was “brewed”, about 9000 years ago.
It is not the first incidence of outsourcing in the brewing industry. Presently the SAQ has Asahi, canned in Japan, but bottled in Thailand (and previously the Czech Republic) and Kirin Ichiban which is produced by the Anhauser-Busch facility in San Francisco. Mexico had Simpatico, which was bought out by US interests in Wisconsin, and was phased out of the market. The LCBO had Double Diamond at one time, imported from Australia, by-passing Burton-On-Keat (UK), but I digress….
Let us describe the beer. Tuborg Gold is a clear, straw-gold liquid with a big-bubbled silvery-white head. The nose is clean and neat with sweet hops and rye bread and cereal, while one mouth has refreshing hints of cashews, whole-wheat toast, and butter. Sold at grocers and deps in Quebec in 500ml cans at 5.5% alc., each should average out between $1.50 and 2.25. A beer that is fine enough to drink alone, as an aperititf, or it could be enjoyed with any fish or seafood with garlic-onion, butter- olive oil, lemon-lime rice or pasta recipe.
Catch you on the rebound,

Footnote: Thanks to my friend Zenon Borelowski for pointing out the “new origins” of Tuborg (cans & bottles).
